The goal of this assignment was to replicate a famous painting in real life. While searching for a painting, I came across John Williamβs Circe Invidiosa and realized I had a similar dress to the one Circe is wearing in the painting.

I took SO many pictures trying to get the angles right since I was doing it by myself. I had to set my camera up on a timer and a makeshift tripod and hope for the best. I ended up with 24 attempts and I probably could have kept going to get it absolutely perfect.

I ended up with three finalists. None of the angles are exactly right, but I got as close as I could. I also knew I wanted to edit the background and lighting to make it more like the original painting, since I didn’t have a lake handy that I could go stand in.

I ended up going with the far left option. I then brought it into an art program called FireAlpaca. I don’t have photoshop which would be ideal for this situation, but FireAlpaca is free and it gets the job done. I cropped out the background of my original picture and drew in my own. I also messed with overlays and lighting to make it look more like the original. Here is the final picture next to the original.
I had so much fun with this assignment and I’m pretty happy with how it came out given my lack of resources! I’ve been really busy with school and work these past few semesters, so I haven’t been able to be as creative as I’d like and this really scratched that itch.
This assignment is worth 3 stars.
